Apple Inc. will sell the newly unveiled tablet-style iPad starting at $499, a price tag far below the $1,000 that some analysts were expecting. The iPad, which is larger in size but similar in design to Apple’s popular iPhone, was billed by CEO Steve Jobs on Wednesday as “so much more intimate than a laptop and so much more capable than a smart phone.”Jobs, 54, a survivor of pancreatic cancer who got a liver transplant during a 5 1/2-month medical leave last year, looked thin as he introduced the highly anticipated gadget. The iPad has a 9.7-inch touch screen, is a half-inch thick, weighs 1.5 pounds and comes with 16, 32 or 64 gigabytes of flash memory storage. The basic iPad models will cost $499, $599 and $699, depending on the storage size. All models have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity built in. Jobs said the device has a battery that lasts 10 hours and can sit for a month on standby without needing a charge.Apple will also sell a version with pay-as-you-go data plans from AT&T

Everything is bigger and better in Texas, so it’s completely understandable that fans were looking for gargantuan talent on last night’s audition episode of American Idol season 9 from Dallas.Source: WikipediaDallas had a lot to prove. It’s the audition city that gave us the first and, arguably, best Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson. What a tall, big-voiced order to fill!Helping Randy, Kara, and Simon sift through the hopefuls were our two guest judges: the incomparable Neil Patrick Harris, and the dreamiest of the dreamy Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers.Let’s take a look at the mixed bag of treats and tricks from Dallas.Julie Kevelighan: Julie tortured the gang back on season one of Idol, and she’s back to do more damage. She thinks the time passed has done her some good, but she’s sadly mistaken. With her mermaid-inspired dress, and sophomoric sign, Julie assaulted the bunch even further with her light-as-air version of “Black Velvet.” As if things couldn’t get worse, whe

Apple’s new iPad is a game changer for publishing, education and other sectors, including Canada’s wireless carriers that could find consumers snapping up the device that Apple is selling without having it locked into any network service. It could take some time for the full implications of the new device that Apple CEO Steve Jobs described as “so much more intimate than a laptop” and “so much more capable than a smartphone” to be felt, but experts and industry watchers say it could change the way we work and play just as the iPod brought MP3 music to the masses and the iPhone catapulted smartphones into the mainstream market. While Canada’s major carriers were mum Wednesday when asked if they have plans to introduce the iPad on their networks, Richard Smith, professor in Simon Fraser University’s school of communication, said Jobs’s move to end the subsidy model that locks consumers into long-term contracts with wireless carriers could change the way Canadians buy wire

Women need more sleep than men — around 20 minutes of more sleep on an average — owing to their busy and multi-tasking brain, according to a new research by a British sleep expert.Source: Wikipedia“Women need 20 minutes more shut-eye than the average man. This is because women’s brains are wired differently from men’s and are more complex, so their sleep need is slightly greater,” said Professor Jim Horne, director of the Sleep Research Centre at Loughborough University in UK.Pointing out that one of the major functions of sleep is to allow the brain to recover and repair itself, Horne said, “During deep sleep, the cortex — part of the brain responsible for thought memory, language and so on — disengages from the senses and goes into recovery mode. The more a person uses his brain during the day, the more sleep he needs at night to recover, Horne said adding, “Women tend to multi-task — they do lots at once and are flexible — and so they use more of their actual

A good face cream can work wonders, but it’s equally important to nourish your skin from the inside out. Below, I present four delicious foods packed with essential nutrients to keep your skin looking radiant and fresh!1. Sweet Potato FriesSweet potatoes are a dynamite source of beta-carotene (their bright orange color is a dead giveaway). Your body converts beta-carotene to vitamin A, a nutrient that helps to continually generate new, healthy skin cells.I like to turn sweet potatoes into crispy oven-baked French fries. Cut peeled potatoes into ¼-inch strips and spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet coated with oil spray. Mist the fries with oil spray and season with salt, black pepper, or any other seasonings (ground cinnamon, curry powder, and chili powder are all fun options). Bake in a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes, flipping the fries halfway through. I finish my fries under the broiler for 5 minutes to get them extra crispy!2. Balsamic CarrotsLike sweet potatoes, carro
