POLICE have confirmed the death of troubled socialite Casey Johnson, despite her lesbian partner Tila Tequila saying the Johnson & Johnson heiress was “not dead but in a coma”.

“I can confirm there’s been a death and the body has been identified as Casey Johnson,” Los Angeles Police Department Sergeant Charles Halliburton said, according to OK magazine.

The 30-year-old’s death was reported by gossip website TMZ.

TV personality Tequila, appeared to confirm the death earlier this afternoon on Twitter, posting: “Everyone please pray 4 my Wifey Casey Johnson. She has passed away. Thank u for all ur love and support but I will be offline to be w family”.

A second posting on Tequila’s official Twiiter page said: “This is a very heartbreaking time for me. I just want some pricacy (sic) as I deal with the loss of my Fiance Casey Johnson. I’m (sic) heart is shredded.”

But shortly after Tequila posted: “I just got news that my fiance is not dead but currently in a coma!!! Omg please pray that she will make it! Hang in there my love please!!!”

Moments later she added: “I know u can feel me Casey! Dot let go! I’m almost home baby please hang on! We have a beautiful life planned out for us! I LOVE u! Hang on!”

However following publication of the LAPD confirmation - she posted the following: “R.I.P my Angel. @caseyjonsonJnJ u will forever be in my heart! I love u so so much and we will Marry when I see U in Heaven my Wifey”.

People magazine quoted another LAPD officer confirming the death.

The report said the LAPD and firefighters were called to a house and Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene, with the cause of death as yet undetermined,

“It appears to be a natural death,” police Officer Sara Faden.

“There’s no evidence of foul play. A toxicology report from the coroner’s office will proceed next.”

Johnson, who was openly gay, was the daughter of New York Jets owner Robert “Woody” Johnson and great-great-grand-daughter of Robert Wood Johnson, who co-founded the Johnson & Johnson health care empire.

In 2007, she adopted a daughter, named Ava from Kazakhstan.

Johnson has a history of drug problems and has failed at rehab several times, according to several news sites.

She was also battling her mother, Sale Johnson, for custody of Ava.

The girl was taken away from Casey Johnson when the heiress was found to be living in squalor, according to the New York Daily News.

Sale and Robert Johnson, who are divorced, recently cut off her trust fund when she refused to get help for drug abuse, friends have said.

She was arrested in November on charges of grand theft.

The alleged victim was reportedly her ex-girlfriend, Jasmine Leonard.

Johnson became engaged to Tequila in early December.

Tequila, whose real name is Tila Nguyen, is a Singapore-born singer, model and television personality.

She has created headlines for posing nude in Stuff, Maxim and Penthouse magazine and for her role as a host of the TV show Pants-Off Dance-Off.

The 28-year-old also had an MTV reality show called A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila which aired for two seasons.

She was discovered by a Playboy scout in a mall when she was 18.

Weinstein Co. might be getting some much-needed good news this weekend.

The financially beleaguered independent movie studio opens Quentin Tarantino’s World War II action film “Inglourious Basterds” today and all indications are that it will have a solid and potentially very strong opening. It’s the first major release for Weinstein Co., which is attempting to strip away its widespread media interests and focus on movies and television.

According to people with access to pre-release audience polling, “Basterds” should sell more than $25 million worth of tickets in the U.S. and Canada this weekend and could very well top $30 million.

The movie cost about $70 million to produce. Weinstein Co. split that cost with Universal Pictures, which is handling overseas distribution. “Basterds” is opening in 22 foreign countries this weekend, including most of Europe. Weinstein Co. and Universal will split the movie’s worldwide proceeds equally.

It’s likely to be the biggest opening of Tarantino’s career, not accounting for ticket price inflation. His highest domestic launch so far is $25.1 million from “Kill Bill: Vol. 2,” which Bob and Harvey Weinstein’s old studio Miramax released in 2004.

A strong opening, however, won’t guarantee a great overall performance for “Basterds.”

The movie clocks in at more than 2 1/2 hours and may generate some negative reactions given its explicit violence, so word of mouth could be crucial. In addition, movie attendance in late August is typically slow. The biggest-ever opening in the second half of the month is 2007’s “Superbad,” which earned $33.1 million its first weekend.

Reviews for “Basterds” thus far have been largely positive, with some exceptions: Times critic Kenneth Turan called it “unforgivably leisurely, almost glacial, a film that loses its way in the thickets of alternative history and manages to be violent without the start-to-finish energy that violence on screen usually guarantees.”

The movie is tracking strongest with male moviegoers. That could put it in conflict with “District 9,” which opened to a very strong $37.4 million last Friday. Sixty-four percent of its opening-weekend audience was men, although Sony Pictures is hoping to attract more women.

“District 9″ will almost certainly be the No. 2 movie this weekend, as three other low-budget releases are each expected to gross well under $10 million.

Fox has the comedy “Post Grad” from its defunct Fox Atomic youth unit; the Fox Searchlight specialty division has handled the film’s marketing.

Disney is releasing documentary “X Games 3D: The Movie” on 3-D screens only.

Warner Bros. is releasing the family film “Shorts,” directed by Robert Rodriguez, which was financed by Media Rights Capital and Imagenation Abu Dhabi.

With no new film aimed at adult women this weekend, Warner Bros. will probably be watching to see whether “The Time Traveler’s Wife” demonstrates staying power by dropping less than 40% after its mediocre $18.6-million launch last weekend.
